Rob Harward – The Riverford Organic Foods story

The Riverford box scheme began when Guy Watson started delivering vegetables locally to 30 friends in Devon. The company now delivers around 47,000 boxes of organic fruit, veg, meat and other fresh food from a network of five farms to homes around the UK.

Riverford think about how all the decisions they make affect the environment, from the type of packaging they use to the most energy efficient way of using their fridges. They even completed a two year study on environmental practices with Exeter University, publishing the findings online.

As the study showed, and as Rob will explain, doing the right thing is often far from obvious and frequently confounds initial expectations.
